This Privacy Policy explains how Study Vault, a product of Nurse in Progress(nurseinprogress.com) ("we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website, applications, and services (the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

Account information — your name, email address, password (stored as a secure hash by our authentication provider), and optional profile details such as an avatar image.
Study activity — the content you interact with and create: quiz answers and scores, flashcard reviews and scheduling data, notes, study plans, and streaks. We use this to power features like progress tracking and spaced repetition.
Billing information — handled by our payment processors (Stripe and PayPal). We receive subscription status and transaction metadata (e.g., plan, amount, date) but never store your card or bank details on our servers.
Technical data — basic logs such as IP address, browser type, and device information, used for security and to keep the Service running reliably.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
To personalize your study experience (e.g., review scheduling, readiness scores, recommendations);
To process payments and manage subscriptions through our payment processors;
To send transactional emails (account, billing, password resets) and — if you opt in — study reminders and progress digests;
To protect the Service against fraud and abuse; and
To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Cookies and Authentication

We use cookies primarily to keep you signed in: our authentication provider sets secure session cookies so the Service knows who you are between page loads. We may also use strictly necessary cookies for security and preferences (such as theme). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We share data with a small number of providers who process it on our behalf, only as needed to run the Service:

Supabase — hosts our database, authentication, and file storage (including your account data, study activity, and uploaded files such as avatars).
Stripe and PayPal — process subscription payments. Your payment details go directly to them and are governed by their privacy policies.
OpenAI — powers AI features such as generated feedback. Content you submit to AI features (e.g., tutor messages, questions) is sent to OpenAI for processing to generate a response.

Each provider is bound by its own privacy and security commitments, and we share only what is necessary for the feature to work.

5. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Billing records may be retained longer where required for tax, accounting, or legal purposes. Logs and technical data are retained for limited periods for security and debugging.

6. Your Rights and Deleting Your Data

You can access and update your profile information in your account settings at any time.
You can delete your account from the account settings page. This permanently deletes your account and associated study data from our systems.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and row-level access controls on our database, so your data is only accessible to you. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of any breach as required by law.

8. Children

The Service is intended for nursing students and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16; if you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a notice in the Service. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
